Issues of Governance

Built With You: A Community-Driven Platform for Utah

A simple question to start the conversation

What if Utah’s best solutions aren’t locked in a legislature—but already living in our communities?

Government works best when ideas come from the people who live with the consequences. My role isn’t to dictate answers, but to create space for Utahns to share ideas, pressure-test them, and refine what actually works—especially as new technology gives us better tools to reduce costs, improve services, and protect what matters most.

Below are conversation starters, I would appreciate your feedback.

🏠 Security at Home: Tax Fairness & Economic Freedom

Hook:
Should anyone lose the home they already paid for because government budgets keep growing?

Community Focus:

  • Rethinking property tax and its impact on seniors and fixed-income families
  • Exploring consumption-based use taxes tied to economic activity—not ownership
  • Demanding accountability and transparency in government spending

Idea to test:
A gradual phase-out of property tax on primary residences, replaced by a capped use tax with rebates for low-income households.

Your voice matters:
How should Utah fund essential services without taxing people out of their homes?

🌾 Grow Smart, Not Reckless: Land Use & Responsible Development

Hook:
When growth outpaces planning, who pays the price?

Community Focus:

  • Slowing unchecked annexation that strains counties
  • Protecting agricultural and heritage lands like the North Fields
  • Giving local governments better long-range planning tools
  • Learning from states that manage growth without runaway costs

Idea to test:
Opt-in master-planning models that protect rural character while allowing thoughtful development.

Your voice matters:
Where should growth happen—and where should it stop?

🚚 Move Goods, Protect Neighborhoods: Transportation Innovation

Hook:
Can we keep commerce moving without sacrificing safety and sleep?

Community Focus:

  • Reducing daytime truck congestion in neighborhoods
  • Preserving local roads and improving safety
  • Using incentives instead of heavy-handed regulation

Idea to test:
Nighttime truck corridors with fuel credits, fee reductions, and designated routes.

Your voice matters:
What transportation solutions actually work where you live?

👨‍👩‍👧 Strong Families, Strong Communities

Hook:
What if education and policy strengthened families instead of replacing them?

Community Focus:

  • Local control of education
  • Career & Technical Education, trades, and apprenticeships
  • Character, civic awareness, and life skills
  • Parks, trails, recreation, and open community spaces, fee free recreation is important!

Idea to test:
Expanding vocational pathways tied directly to local workforce needs.

Your voice matters:
What should schools prepare our kids for—real life or just tests?

💧 Protecting What Sustains Us: Water & Environmental Stewardship

Hook:
What’s the value of growth if it drains the very resources we depend on?

Community Focus:

  • Water quality and long-term supply
  • Infrastructure resilience in drought conditions
  • Clean air and water as economic and quality-of-life essentials

Idea to test:
Infrastructure upgrades that prioritize conservation over crisis response.

Your voice matters:
How do we protect Utah’s beauty without pricing families out?

🩺 Dignity in Aging & Healthcare Access

Hook:
Should seniors be forced to work longer just to keep their homes?

Community Focus:

  • Protecting Medicare and Medicaid access
  • Expanding community-based and long-term care
  • Supporting healthcare workers, EMS, and rural providers

Idea to test:
Policies that allow seniors to age in place without tax displacement.

Your voice matters:
What does compassionate, sustainable healthcare look like in your community?

🏘️ Affordable Housing That Fits Utah

Hook:
What if housing innovation lowered costs instead of inflating profits?

Community Focus:

  • Affordability tied to local median income
  • Modular homes, ADUs, tiny homes, and creative zoning
  • Environmental ethics and community stewardship

Idea to test:
Income-linked housing incentives and limited-impact living zones for remote workers.

Your voice matters:
What kinds of housing actually belong in Utah communities?

🗳️ Trust in the System: Elections & Civic Tools

Hook:
What if transparency made politics boring—in the best way?

Community Focus:

  • Accurate voter registration and signature verification
  • Clear safeguards against misinformation
  • Technology that keeps voters informed before decisions are made
  • Public records are public at the onset of the record creation.
  • GRAMA requests are the exception, GRAMA APPEALS are the exception to the exception and Court involvement for transparency is a last resort.
  • Government officials who withhold public records are removed from employment immediately.
  • Public meetings, including courts are livestreamed, the legislature determines the healthy boundaries, not the judicial branch.

Idea to test:
Public dashboards showing issues, impacts, and votes in plain language.

Your voice matters:
What would restore your trust in elections and civic institutions?

🚓 Public Safety with Accountability

Hook:
Can we support law enforcement while demanding constitutional integrity?

Community Focus:

  • Training, accountability, and community standards
  • Strong backing for EMS and first responders
  • Funding tied to outcomes—not bureaucracy
  • Constitutionally sound law enforcement and increased training on due process and civil rights

🪶 Faith, Culture & Shared Values

Hook:
What holds a community together when politics falls short?

Community Focus:

  • Religious freedom and tradition
  • Reflection, nature, and shared cultural spaces
  • Respect across beliefs

Your voice matters:

🧩 Future-Facing Conversations

Short ideas worth exploring together:

  • Rural Broadband & Tech Access – Remote work, education, and opportunity
  • Small Business & Workforce Development – Local jobs, fewer barriers
  • Mental Health & Addiction Recovery – Treatment over incarceration
  • Infrastructure Funding Reform – Smart investments, honest math
  • Energy Independence – Reliable power with environmental safeguards

🌱 What If: Utah Homestead Stewardship Policy

Big Question:
What if land wasn’t something to flip—but something we were trusted to care for?

Core Idea:
A non-transferable homestead stewardship right where land remains held in trust, granting lifetime use—not speculative ownership.

Key Principles (Community Feedback Welcome):

  • One homestead per Utah-born resident
  • No corporations, developers, or speculation
  • Lifetime stewardship, passed only to direct posterity
  • Strict occupancy and use rules
  • Dry living encouraged; no automatic public infrastructure burden
  • Counties opt in or out—local control preserved

Why explore it:

  • Prevents land speculation
  • Preserves rural character
  • Rewards self-reliance
  • Avoids massive infrastructure costs

Your voice matters:
Is this a path worth testing—or does it need refinement?

Final Invitation

I don’t believe the best ideas come from a podium.
They come from kitchen tables, job sites, farms, classrooms, and neighborhoods.

If elected, my job is to listen, test, refine, and represent—not dictate.

👉 What would you change? What would you try? What should Utah protect next?

Let’s build this together.
